Poppies for Gill
by Barry Taylor, UK

Poppies hold thoughts in multitude
Feelings we sometimes wish to elude
Often they only bring you sorrow
Of things we stand to lose tomorrow
Memories bring sorrow and often hurt
Seeds then scattered amongst the dirt
Brave new life always sprouts again
Helping us to mask out all the pain
Reminding us of the way things were
Blossom often helps memories to stir
Perhaps we wish, things may change
Rekindled thoughts are often strange
Bringing new life into an empty home
Often our thoughts will cease to roam
Perhaps red flowers quicken the heart
Sometimes driving our dreams apart
