Get together for pals who share condition

Internet friend help each other cope with Multiple Sclerosis

People with MS from all over the country are to meet up in Nuneaton after becoming friends over the internet.

Around 30 people from all corners of the UK, will gather for a meal at the Griff House Beefeater on September 6.

Chris Oddy

The gathering has been organised by Nuneaton woman Christine Oddy, aged 51, who was diagnosed with the neurological condition in 2001.

Despite MS affecting her balance, co-ordination and eyesight Christine stil works as a medical secretary at her local hospital.

When she was diagnosed Mrs Oddy turned to a website run by Julie Howell, a Peterborough woman with MS, for support.

The site, Jooly's Joint MS Webpals, has more than 10,000 members and is celebrating its 8th birthday in September.

The Nuneaton get together will be attended by people as far afield as Scotland, Peterborough and Norfolk.

Mrs Oddy said: "While some of us have met before, for many of us it will be the first time we have met other people with MS.

"The opportunity to chat with others who share our condition has really helped me gain a better understanding of what to expect.

"MS is unpredictable but knowing there are others I can talk to who understand the way I feel makes a big difference.

I'm really pleased to be helping to organise this event so that other people like me will have the opportunity to make new friends."
