Smiling sun Lisa is crowned Ms Wheelchair Wisconsin 2003!

Jooly's Joint member Lisa Wartchow from Wisconsin, USA has been crowned winner of Ms Wheelchair Wisconsin 2003.

Lisa is married with 2 teenage daughters. She has had MS for 11 years.

Lisa has chronic progressive MS, and has used a wheelchair for the past eight years. She is also assisted by her service dog 'Max', who helps Lisa to be more independent.

The Ms Wheelchair Wisconsin Program is part of the Ms Wheelchair America Program which was established in 1972 as 'a forum to promote the achievements, as well to bring positive attention to the needs of mobility impaired individuals'.

The Program recognises the accomplishments of women who use wheelchairs by giving women with conditions such as MS the opportunity to publicly advocate on behalf of people with disabilities.

Lisa says, "The title Ms Wheelchair Wisconsin will allow me to be a stronger voice for others with chronic illness or other disabilities throughout the state of Wisconsin.

"I will focus on the importance of being independent as well as the crisis in the community services system for people with disabilities. My motto will be 'Together we roll, independence is our goal'."

Lisa hopes to raise money to enter the national MS Wheelchair America pageant in Iowa in July 2003.

We all wish her the best of luck!
