Joan draws on her imagination!

Joan from New York, USA writes:

"After I was diagnosed with MS in 1993 I found myself with time at home alone, struggling with all the new physical disabilities (or what I thought of as disabilities at the time). I began to draw. Not like any other drawings I had ever done before. Because my eyesight was so 'off and on' I had to let go and 'go outside the lines', if you will. A whole new style was created. My imagination soared. I also began to work with clay. When my eyes were at their worst, I could 'feel' instead of relying on my eyes. It seems strange to say that MS has helped me, but I never would have become so creative in my work, if not for my MS.

"I come from a very musically talented family. My five brothers and sisters have all performed music in one way or another, from Opera to Bluegrass. My three children have picked up this love of and talent for music. When music plays (as it does often in our home) I draw. My drawings are the result of my family's love of music. While the music plays the notes, the tunes, the feelings , flow through my old ink pen onto the drawing pad. As long as the music plays, I'll be drawing it!"

Hand of MS

This drawing was done as an explanation for my kids. At the time they wanted to know just exactly how my hand felt: spider web crawly feelings, prickly sharp, hot on fire, sleepy numb, weird tingly, etc.
